About Us

Why do we do it?

We are a social enterprise which means any profits we make are spent on bringing our services to people who for whatever reason are at the edges of society. This link is about a tree planting project.

How do we operate?

We aim for excellence and are constantly improving. All the people leading sessions are at the top of their game and overqualified for the work. Our volunteers are chosen for their passion and experience. We have never had to advertise for staff. We have a flat management system so everyone is as involved or not as they want to be. We all offer our time as volunteers and qualified session leaders are paid whenever possible. All the people we work with are invited to participate in the delivery and management of our services in an age appropriate way.

Who are we?

Jane Acton, DirectorJane Acton, Director

My gaze is from the microscopic to the bioshere and beyond. Nearly 20 years in the community and voluntary sector fundraising, setting up project and supporting groups to move forward and achieve collective goals, specializing in environmental protection, sustainable use of natural resources, child poverty and mental health.

With a degree from Bangor Uni in Botany and an MA from Goldsmiths in Social Anthropology, I am an ethnobotanist.

I have conducted salvage ethnobotany research in Wales and the high Andes looking at ways of saving ancient wisdom of using plants for medicines to benefit local economy and ecology. I have also managed budgets of £1 million+ working in 3rd sector with low income families on mutually agreed social and environmental projects. For example the first veggie box scheme in Cornwall which recycled misshapen veg to the poorest families, loans for families to allow them to use washable nappies, transport cards for bus, train and boat and support for building the award winning eco building Penryn Childrens Centre aka Jubliee Wharf .
